Management Zones

A Management Zone is a formally defined area with specific boundaries where a formal contractual arrangement among permittees will be required to provide safe drinking water and to manage nitrate.

The Central Valley Water Board has initiated the Nitrate Control Program in the six highest priority groundwater basins.

Five local organizations have formed to implement the nitrate requirements and provide safe drinking water where needed in these basins.

ACTIVE (Priority 1) Management Zones

ACTIVE (Priority 1) groundwater basins /subbasins are Modesto, Turlock, Chowchilla, Kings, Kaweah, and Tule.

Coming Soon: DEVELOPING (Priority 2 Management Zone) Groundwater Basins

DEVELOPING (Priority 2) groundwater basins /subbasins are Yolo, Merced, Kern County (west side south), Tulare Lake, Kern County (Poso), Delta Mendota, Eastern San Joaquin, and Madera.
