Central Valley Salinity Coalition and CV-SALTS

What is the Central Valley Salinity Coalition?

A non-profit coalition of Public Agencies, Business, Associations and other members  working together to better manage Salts in the Central Valley of California

We are a new non-profit and formed in July 2008 to organize, facilitate and fund efforts needed for the efficient management of salinity in the Central Valley.  The Executive Committee of the Central Valley Policy Group approved the formation of the Coalition in July 2008 and the first members provided funding shortly thereafter.  The Central Valley Salinity Coalition Inc. is a California member benefit 501 C-6 Corporation registered with the Secretary of State.  CVSC is formed in a similar format to the Southern and Northern California Salinity Coalitions. As CVSC is further developed it will cooperate with other California Salinity Coalitions.  Click here for the growing member list of organizations dedicated to water and salinity management in the Central Valley.

Salt Intake and Nutrition

pakets nutritionAs the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans are currently under development and regulations surrounding sodium consumption are being considered, an analysis of evidence to be released online Thursday, Oct. 15, in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN) questions the scientific logic and feasibility of the decades-long effort to limit salt intake in humans.

After examining data from sodium intake studies worldwide and a critical body of neuroscience research on sodium appetite (innate behaviors that drive us to consume salt), researchers from the Department of Nutrition at the University of California, Davis, and the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Washington University found compelling evidence indicating that humans naturally regulate their salt intake within a narrowly defined physiologic range.
